Marcel’s Green Soap Body Bar Tonka & Muguet Review

Marcel's Green Soap Body Bar Tonka & Muguet

Marcel’s Green Soap Body Bar Tonka & Muguet was the first product of this scent and type I tried from this brand. Even if I wrote a review about Marcel’s Green Soap Body Bar Argan & Oudh first. And just like that one, this vegan soap body bar did not turn out to be as great as it seemed.

Why is that? Well… Again, it’s all in the ingredients. But it was a bit nicer to use than its red counterpart. Also, I got to try it twice because the store sent me two instead of a differently scented one. There were supposed to be three different soap body bars. But by now, I’m not even sure whether I want to bother trying out yet another one of these for reasons you’re about to find out!

Ingredients

Marcel’s Green Soap Body Bar Tonka & Muguet is 100% vegan, microplastic-free, and 97% biodegradable. According to ingredient checkers, it’s free from alcohol, oil, parabens, sulfates, and silicone, and is reef-safe. It’s also considered fungal acne safe but contains colourants and fragrances. This vegan soap body bar actually has four colourants and three perfuming ingredients.

Most of the ingredients on the list seem to be quite unfavourable based on a quick analysis. That contradicts the previous paragraph because they may trigger eczema, rosacea, and acne, as well as irritate and dry the skin.

Just like with Marcel’s Green Soap Body Bar Argan & Oudh, I went on to have a quick look at those C-something ingredients and here’s what I found:

CI 74260 is restricted for use in Europe (IV/107). It is also allowed in all cosmetics except those used around the eyes. According to UN GHS, it is harmful in contact with skin (H312), causes serious eye irritation (H319), may cause respiratory irritation (H335). (SpecialChem)

CI 77266 is safe to be used in cosmetics as long as it is in a concentration of not more than 10%. Since its only function is to add color to makeup products, there are no concerns regarding CI 77266 safety, and is also halal. (SpecialChem)

CI 47005 is considered safe for use in cosmetics by the USFDA however, it is known to be irritating to the skin and eyes, and may be an endocrine disruptor affecting the hormone production in the body. (SpecialChem)

CI 77891 titanium dioxide is vegan, halal, non-toxic, and overall safe to be used in cosmetics. Its particles are large enough to not penetrate healthy skin and pose any dangers. However, CI 77891 is dangerous if inhaled and has shown an increased risk of lung cancer in animals. (SpecialChem)

Yeah, man! It’s cool! Awesome ingredients, may F#%K you up a little or something else around you.

Why do I have a suspicion that there might be better options out there that don’t even claim to be eco-friendly at their core? 🤔

Anymoose…

Here’s the full ingredients list:

Sodium Palmate, Sodium Palm Kernelate, Aqua, Glycerin, Parfum, Palm Kernel Acid, Sodium Chloride, BHT, Tetrasodium Etidronate, Tetrasodium EDTA, Alumina, Disodium Methylene Dinaphthalenesulfonate, Linalool, Citronellol, CI 74260, CI 77266, CI 47005, CI 77891

Smell and Consistency

Marcel’s Green Soap Body Bar Tonka & Muguet smells great! I can still smell this lovely scent lingering in the box that is now empty. It’s one of those cases where I just wanna keep sniffing it! Yes, yes… Very nice.

Other than that, it’s just a soap bar basically. It looks and feels just like a soap bar. A big green smooth soap bar.

Usage

Marcel’s Green Soap Body Bar Tonka & Muguet gets pretty foamy. Foamier than regular soap. It can get slippery too.

This vegan soap body bar works great as a simple hand soap too. It can be used in many ways, but I simply used it as a body bar. I haven’t tried to use it on my hair, but I suspect it might be a little too dry for that.

Unlike Marcel’s Green Soap Body Bar Argan & Oudh, this vegan soap body bar didn’t irritate more sensitive body areas and was much more pleasant to use. But like its red counterpart, it left residue on my bathtub (or shower) and my body as well, which was mostly visible on my dominant hand again. It’s like a white film. So yeah… That’s not ideal. I find that using most liquid soaps or shower gels doesn’t make my bathtub look so dirty so fast, and doesn’t leave anything weird on my body either. Using soap bars to shower with, however… It does just that.

Marcel’s Green Soap Body Bar Tonka & Muguet is supposed to last as long as three bottles of shower gel. Not the case for a power user like me, though.

Packaging

Marcel’s Green Soap Body Bar Tonka & Muguet comes in a recyclable cardboard box that slides out like a drawer. No plastic involved. It does slide out quite easily, so I almoose dropped it when I held it up vertically.

The box has a nice design in bright green and white colours and holds a 150 g soap body bar. That’s the only option available. No other sizes were made for this particular product.

Price

Interestingly enough, Marcel’s Green Soap Body Bar Tonka & Muguet was not available on the brand’s website at the time of writing this review. But all the other soap body bars cost the same, so… I assume this one also costs the same. The price is quite decent for a bar of this size. Except it doesn’t last as long as the brand claims it does. Not for me, at least.

This is true in May 2025:

Price at Nula shop: €5,50
Price on Marcel’s Green Soap website: €4,99

Cheaper on the brand’s website, but counting the shipping costs, buying local it is. For me.

Where It’s Made

The Netherlands.

Summary

🟢 100% vegan.
🟢 97% biodegradable ingredients.
🟢 Plastic-free and microplastic-free formula.
🟢 Free from sulfates, alcohol, parabens, silicone, oils, fungal-acne-safe, and reef-safe.
🟢 Great scent and gets pretty foamy.
🟢 Can be used as a body bar and a regular hand soap.
🟢 Comes in a nicely designed recyclable cardboard box.

🔴 Contains fragrance, cosmetic colourants, stabilisers, and masking agents, some of which can cause some issues.
🔴 Can trigger eczema, rosacea, acne, and cause dry skin. It did dry my skin a bit, but it wasn’t irritating overall.
🔴 Still 3% shy of 100% biodegradable ingredients.
🔴 It doesn’t last as long as claimed for me, at least.
🔴 Leaves white residue on skin and bathtub.

Another great idea down the drain. Lovely scent, no plastic, and does the job, but stuffed with ingredients that aren’t great for your body and are kinda questionable for the environment as well. It’s nicer to use than its red counterpart, but still. It isn’t it for me.

Would I Buy It Again?

No. Unless they change the formula.
