No more irritated painful tongue and cracked lip corners! 👀
Yep. These things were apparently caused by some of the toothpaste I was using. Sensodyne in particular was terrible for my mouth. Isn’t that supposed to help with sensitive teeth and stuff like that? Probably by burning your whole mouth out so you don’t even feel or taste anything anymore.
I realized that after switching to some other eco-friendly brand. And then I discovered Comme Avant White Clay Toothpaste.
It was unusual to get toothpaste in a jar. I was a little unsure how I was going to use it as I had never tried anything like this before. Little did I know that… SPOILER ALERT! I was going to enjoy it.
Ingredients
The length of the ingredients list is impressive because… It’s so short! Also, Comme Avant White Clay Toothpaste is fluoride and fragrance free and vegan. Natural and organic ingredients. No dyes or preservatives.
This list made a stellar performance on the ingredient-checker sites I tried:
Calcium Carbonate, Glycerin*, Aqua, Kaolin, Sodium Cocoyl Glutamate
*From controlled organic cultivation
I did have trouble finding this particular toothpaste on the Comme Avant website. Plus, everything’s in French. The label on the jar is in French too, and the Lithuanian label is barely visible. Yay for Google Translate though. Hopefully, all of this is accurate. 👀
Smell, Taste and Consistency
Comme Avant White Clay Toothpaste smells like… something. Nothing strong. It’s rather neutral. I like it.
It doesn’t really taste like anything either. That’s fine with me too.
The consistency is clay-like (it’s in the name after all!). It’s sticky when getting some with my toothbrush, but it doesn’t feel sticky when brushing my teeth. It dissolves easily. Sometimes some spots are a bit too hard in the jar, but it doesn’t affect the brushing process.
Usage
I just dip my dry toothbrush into the jar and brush my teeth, which is also written on the Comme Avant White Clay Toothpaste label on how to use it. This may or may not be a problem if you’re not the only person using it.
The toothpaste dissolves easily and gets foamy when brushing teeth. It doesn’t leave any taste or residue afterwards. Unless you get some on your shirt or the bathroom mirror. However, it washes out and cleans off easily.
Packaging
Comme Avant White Clay Toothpaste came in a recyclable 120 g glass jar with a cork stopper. It’s pretty neat! But it might not be the most convenient container if you’re travelling. Depends on where and how you’re travelling though.
The jar lasts a long time. It’s been months and I’m still using it at the time of writing this review. The toothpaste is nowhere near done.
Price
Comme Avant White Clay Toothpaste is not the cheapest out there but I think it’s worth it.
This is true in December 2024:
Full price at Nula shop: €10,90
I could not find this particular toothpaste on the official Comme Avant website, but I assume it would be a bit cheaper. There’s only a powdered toothpaste available. Maybe they discontinued this one, which would be a shame.
Where It’s Made
France.
Summary
🟢 Excellent organic natural biodegradable ingredients.
🟢 Vegan.
🟢 Flouride, dye, preservative and fragrance free.
🟢 Cleans teeth well.
🟢 Dissolves easily and doesn’t leave any residue or aftertaste in the mouth.
🟢 Smells and tastes rather neutral which is pleasant.
🟢 Does not irritate the tongue and the mouth.
🟢 Recyclable, reusable packaging.
🟢 Lasts a long time.
🔴 Hard and soft in different spots at times and sticky which may make it a bit difficult to get the right amount you want on your toothbrush, but it’s not a big deal, in my opinion.
🔴 The packaging may not be the most convenient or hygienic for travelling or/and sharing. Depends on your needs.
Comme Avant White Clay Toothpaste gets the job done and doesn’t burn my taste buds! Which should be the norm with any toothpaste or product out there.
Would I Buy It Again?
Absolutely! This is probably the best toothpaste I have ever used. At least, at the time of writing this review.
