Ah! Deodorant. A staple in today’s world, so you don’t smell like a skunk or something. No offense to skunks though. They’re very cute. 🦨
I got Comme Avant Cacao Butter Deodorant Version 3 in hopes of a healthier and nicer alternative to whatever I’ve been using for years.
It was definitely something different and it worked in unexpected ways. The first natural deodorant stick of its kind that I’ve ever tried. Version 3 I suppose means they’ve made some revisions to this deodorant.

Ingredients
Comme Avant Cacao Butter Deodorant Version 3 doesn’t have many ingredients, which is often a great sign in my book. 100% natural ingredients, 56% of which are from organic cultivation. Biodegradable and vegan. No alcohol, aluminium, sulfates, silicone, parabens, palm oil, colourants, fragrance or whatever else yucky stuff they put in some products out there. On the Comme Avant website, I also discovered that this natural deodorant is also free from baking soda because it’s not always tolerated by sensitive skin.
According to ingredient checkers, everything looks great. The only downside might be the cacao seed butter for oily and acne-prone skin, but it probably doesn’t matter here. Unless you’re putting that on your face or something.
Here’s the ingredient list:
Magnesium Hydroxide, Theobroma Cacao Seed Butter*, Triethyl Citrate, Astrocaryum Murumuru Seed Butter*, Copernicia Cerifera Wax*
*From controlled organic cultivation
Smell and Consistency
Comme Avant Cacao Butter Deodorant Version 3 is fragrance-free, but it smells like something… well… buttery. A faint scent of cacao butter and possibly something else, but mainly the cacao butter. I personally like it. Smells delicious! I had to put effort into sniffing it in order to smell it properly though. Once applied and wearing clothes, can’t really smell anything. As if nothing was used at all!
The consistency? Also butter-like, but not as soft as butter. It’s very solid and doesn’t seem melty at all. This natural deodorant is more crumbly, so maybe like a hard toffee or something.
Application and Effect
Comme Avant Cacao Butter Deodorant Version 3 is not that easy to apply. The deodorant stick pushes up from the bottom, and when you’re done, you have to push it back somehow. I used the cover for that, but switched to using my finger. It just seemed to work better.
It does get crumbly at times, which is not ideal. Comme Avant Cacao Butter Deodorant Version 3 tends to leave some crumbs on the armpits and anywhere else they may fall when using it. It doesn’t slide as easily. I must say that it’s easier to apply if your armpits are shaven. Some pieces remain and get scraped off when pushing the deodorant stick back into its packaging as well. Comme Avant’s website gives a tip to start applying this natural deodorant elsewhere or place it under running hot water for a few seconds before applying if you’ve got furry pits. Apparently, you can also use it on other body parts. I never thought about it or had the need to, but it makes sense it being natural and all!
The sweating? It doesn’t stop it! Comme Avant Cacao Butter Deodorant Version 3 simply neutralizes the bad smell, but I was still sweating and had sweat stains on my clothes. It just didn’t smell. Sort of. There’s this wet clothing smell with a bit of something. This was a bit unexpected to me, especially after using stuff that often did stop or reduce sweating. I can’t say I hated this though. Our bodies are supposed to sweat. This deodorant stick allows it to do what it’s supposed to do and doesn’t leave you stinking.
Speaking of clothes… I don’t know if it’s because I was using a bit too much of the product (very likely with me) or what, but it does leave residue on the clothes. I had no issue with washing Comme Avant Cacao Butter Deodorant Version 3 out though.
My skin seems to like this natural deodorant stick. It didn’t get dry or irritated like with some of the stuff I’ve used in the past. It’s nice!

Packaging
Comme Avant Cacao Butter Deodorant Version 3 comes in cardboard packaging with 60 g of product inside. No plastic here. It’s also compostable and can be recycled. Zero waste.
The packaging of this deodorant stick makes it easy to take it with you as well. Just keep it dry, I suppose. It’s not flimsy, so it doesn’t seem like it would fall apart even if it got wet. I personally haven’t encountered wet deodorant situations and don’t plan on testing that. Not taking it diving or something.
Comme Avant’s website actually has refills that can be placed into the same packaging. However, those are not available at the store I got this natural deodorant from.
Price
Comme Avant Cacao Butter Deodorant Version 3 isn’t cheap or expensive. I think it’s well-priced for the amount of time it lasts. The price is also the same at both the online store I got it from and the manufacturer’s website.
This is true in January 2025:
Price at Nula shop: €10,90
Price on Comme Avant website: €10,90
